7 – Devizes Market Place.




Front: The painting dates to around 1850 as there are only 3 steps, and was painted before the Corn Exchange was built in 1857, permission by the Devizes Town Council.

Back: The drawing shows a busy market day scene sometime around the 1860 to 1870s. Left is a 1880s photo of the fountain to honour Thomas Sotheron Estcourt MP built in 1879. Photo courtesy of Elizabeth Goodman
